RCMS Academic Team Excels at Regional Competition

The Rockcastle County Middle School Academic Team qualified for the Governor’s Cup State Finals with their second place finish at the Regional Tournament held at Foley Middle School on Saturday, February 13th. The Quick Recall team placed second, and, for only the third time in team history, will represent Rockcastle County at the State Tournament which will be held at the Galt House in Louisville on March 19th, 20th and 21st. In advancing to State, the team will join the other top forty-seven schools in the state and have the opportunity to compete for the Governor’s Cup, the most prestigious academic award in the state, which will be awarded by Governor, Matt Bevin on Monday, March 21st.

Individual students who advanced in written assessment to the State Finals include Ellie Robinson, a sixth grader who placed in Arts and Humanities, Brexton Cromer, an eighth grader who placed in Social Studies, and Aden Amburgey who placed in Arts and Humanities. Additionally, eighth grader Jonathan Cain placed in Science and became the first student in school history to advance to the State Finals in that subject and eight grader Drew Bullock placed first in Social Studies with the third highest score in the state on the Region exam.

Aden

Eighth grader Aden Amburgey placed fourth in Arts and Humanities at the Regional Tournament and will represent RCMS in her subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.

Brexton

Eighth grader Brexton Cromer placed second in Social Studies at the Regional Tournament and will represent RCMS in his subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.

drew

Eighth grader Drew Bullock placed first in Social Studies at the Regional Tournament with the third highest score in the entire state and will represent RCMS in his subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.

ellie

Ellie Robinson is only the second sixth grader in school history to advance to the State Finals. She placed fourth in Arts and Humanities at the Regional Tournament and will represent RCMS in her subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.

jonathan

Eight grader Jonathan Cain made school history by becoming the first ever student from RCMS to advance to the State Finals in Science. Cain placed third in Science at the Regional Tournament and will represent RCMS in his subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.

kristen

Eighth grader Kristen Taylor placed fourth in Language Arts at the Regional Tournament and will represent RCMS in his subject at the Governor’s Cup State Finals in Louisville.
